Alias: James Mores, Joseph Mansfield, Jack Holden, M, the Napoleon of Crime.

Occupation: Professor of Mathematics, Crime lord, Spy, Business man.

Sexuality: Straight.

Physical Description: 6ft, short dark brown hair, blue-green eyes, sometimes has a mustache. James is well dressed at most times and prefers black and is wearing a black coat, pair of pants, shoes and a bowler hat with a white shirt and blue tie.

Personality: Moriarty is a well-born man who is educated and considered to be quite the genius with a phenomenal aptitude for mathematics. He is a problem solver first and prefers to use his mind in a fight rather than his fists. Friendly and manipulative, Moriarty is often called the master of disguise just because he so skilled at hiding his intentions. Has a strange sense of honor but he rarely lets that get in the way of his plans. Some paranoia and compulsive habits. He prefers to work behind the scenes rather than out in front though he does enjoy power.

Skills/Abilities: He is highly intelligent and as mentioned before, a born problem solver so he is able to think his way out of his problems and to create problems for others. A high ranking criminal, Moriarty has many contacts throughout the criminal underground. While he prefers to use his head, he is somewhat skilled in hand to hand combat and can hold his own.

Flaws: Human, he is also a compulsive planner who can get easily irritated/ angry when plans don’t go his way. Moriarty is also paranoid and needs to have multiple back-up plans. Violent tendencies and he underestimates people.

Brief History: James Moriarty is the middle son of a prominent military family who as a youth showed a remarkable intelligence and aptitude for mathematics. His father, James Sr., was a Colonel in the Royal British Army and was disappointed in James Jr. for more interested in math rather than the military. His two brothers, John (Older) and Jason (Younger) went into the military with their fathers blessing while James went off to Oxford University.

When he was twenty one James wrote a treatise on the Binomial Theorem, which earned him the Mathematical chair of Oxford University. He also went on to write The Dynamics of An Asteroid. Moriarty was always a man hungry for a challenge and when his Professorship at Oxford began to bore him, Moriarty delved into the world of organized crime when he made the acquaintance of one Colonel Sebastian Moran. At first Moriarty was more of a consultant for other lords of the London criminal underworld but he soon moved to London and started his own syndicate. He then took on two persona’s, one of Joseph Mansfield, the studious and courteous mathematician at Kings College in London while the other was that of James Moriarty, criminal genius.

He soon made an arch-nemesis of Sherlock Holems and Doctor John Watson and spent years of combating against the great detective, winning some battles while losing others. Finally the two finally fought to the death at the top of Reichenback Falls where it was believed that he was killed but James had survived the fall and was found by his good friend Moran who brought him back to his home in London. After he recuperated from his near death experience, Moriarty resumed the life of Joseph Mansfield. For a while he lived that quiet life but once again the thirst for power and the desire for more adventure in life drove Moriarty to his next scheme which was infiltrating the British government and setting himself as the spy known as M. From there he concocted the idea of the League and set about gathering the members.

As with all of his plans, everything went according to plan until he underestimated his own League which brought about another near death experience when Moriarty was shot in Mongolia. He managed to make his way to the Natiloid that Dorian had stolen and used it to make his escape to the United States. After recuperating from his last encounter with the League, Moriarty has been strengthening his forces to continue his quest for world domination.


I do not own The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, nor do I own anything Sherlock Holmes related and sadly, no, I am not Sir Aruther Conan Doyle.
